Hi, I’m Kei!

Who is Kei?
I’m an American woman who lives and works in the US. My first language is English; my second is Japanese. I met my Japanese husband in 2012 while we were in school, and after a year and a half long-distance relationship we finally got married. Now we live in the US together and travel to Japan as often as we can. We have learned to navigate two different cultures to make a strong relationship, and I want to share our experiences and our journey.

What is this blog about?
I created this blog when I was in a long-distance relationship with my Japanese fiancé (details here), who is now my husband. I write about my international relationship with my husband, my experiences travelling in Japan and North America, and Japanese culture. I also write about other Japan-related things that interest me ^^

Why “Yamanashi Kei”?
My name is Kei (that’s how you spell it in Japanese), and when I studied abroad in Japan, I lived in Yamanashi prefecture. When you say prefecture in Japanese it is “ken,” so Yamanashi prefecture becomes Yamanashi-ken. I swapped out “Kei” for “ken” and voila, Yamanashi Kei. I’m Kei, from Yamanashi-ken! Think Indiana Jones (`・ω・´)
